Why I participate in Alpe d'HuZes?

This year, I’ve decided to take part in Alpe d’HuZes, a remarkable event where participants push their limits to raise money for cancer research. For me, this is not just a challenge—it's deeply personal.

In August 2022, my mom was diagnosed with stomach cancer. The doctors told us that her condition ruled out surgery and chemotherapy, and immunotherapy was an expensive option with only a slim chance of success.

Over the months, I supported her daily life while witnessing how this terrible disease drained her of the vibrancy she once had. Seeing someone you love fade away, their body fighting merely to exist, is an unbearable experience. As her caregiver, I lived through this every day. I channelled my stress into sport and leaned on my siblings, family, friends, my Zanders work colleagues who became my emotional pillars.

She passed away in February 2023.

I’m participating in Alpe d’HuZes because I believe cancer treatment should be effective and accessible to everyone. No family should have to make impossible choices between affordability and hope.

When I ride, I feel my mom and dad at my shoulders, pushing me forward, making me stronger. I ride for them, for everyone battling cancer, and for the caregivers who shoulder a burden most people never truly understand.

I want fewer people to lose their loved ones to this disease. I want fewer people to carry the weight of caregiving. I want to see a future where cancer doesn’t mean devastation.
